BSNL discontinues Lifetime Prepaid Plans, existing subscribers to be migrated to a new plan

The government-owned telecom operator has now decided to discontinue its lifetime plan across the nation. The operator which came into the limelight in 2020 for non-payment of salaries to its employees for many months will now migrate its existing lifetime subscribers onto the Rs 107 which is a premium per minute prepaid plan.

The change will take place from 1st December 2021. The lifetime prepaid plan was Rs 36 and came with a validity of six months along with 50 MB internet. There were also lifetime recharge plans of Rs 37, 74, and 75. All such plans have now become discontinued by BSNL.

The new 107 plan provides validity of 90 days along with 10 GB of data. Subscribers would be able to access 100 minutes of outgoing calls for a period of 24 days. Freebies will be provided to the customers who will opt for the new Rs 107 plan. However, those being migrated from the lifetime prepaid plan will not be eligible to receive the freebies.

In the meantime, the telco has also increased the validity of its 2399 plan. The validity of this plan is now 425 days. The validity before was 365 days. In this plan, the customer can access the internet of 3 GB per day with 4g Speeds. After the 3 Gb consumption, the speed would fall back to 80 Kbps. The other benefits include 100 SMS per day along with BSNL Tunes and Eros Now content access throughout the validity period. The telecom players are now on the verge of raising their plans by a significant amount. Jio, although has not announced yet any rise in its tariff, however, the move would be on the horizon.
