After a disastrous T20 WC campaign, India awaits the start of the new Zealand series to start a new beginning to prepare for next year’s T20 WC in Australia. Virat Kohli made an announcement of stepping down from captaincy before the start of WC. Yesterday, Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new T20 captain keeping in mind his winning record in IPL.
Now Gramme Swann has given his own opinion on who he believes will be a good captain for India. And he has chosen Rishab Pant, keeping in mind his young age and combined qualities of Virat Kohli and Ms Dhoni. Swann termed Pant as the ‘captain waiting to lead for 10 years.’
According to Swann, Rohit’s age is not by his side to be the leader for the long term. He believes India has to look for the long term if it wants to choose a captain. Swann heaped praise for Pant, citing his performance for Delhi Capitals and his level-headedness. Swann believes that the young hitter is a mixture of Virat Kohli and Ms Dhoni.
Swann speaking to cricket.com said “Might be, but not for me (On Rohit being the next captain). You have to look to the future. I think India have a captain in waiting for the next 10 years. You know who I’m talking about, it’s Rishabh Pant,”
Rohit Sharma will be 36 by the time of 2023 WC, which will take place in India. And Virat Kohli will be 35 by then. Rishab Pant is only 24 right and has already acquired a handful of experience both at the international level and at IPL. He has also led the Delhi Capitals to the playoffs once.
