Michael Vaughan urges England to reach Day 5 of a Test match

Speaking on Fox Cricket, the former England captain was asked about New Year’s resolution for the England test team, to which he jokingly urged that the team gets to Day 5. England has been completely outplayed in this series and has only themselves to blame for the wrong team selection and batting collapses.

Critics in England have not minced their words when they asked for Silverwood to resign. The likes of Atherton even said that Ben Stokes was a viable captaincy alternative. Fingers were pointed at both Silverwood and Root when the team rested their veteran duo of Broad and Anderson on a seaming pitch and left out a Jack Leach on the Adelaide pitch which has a history of spin-assistance.

Coming back to the topic, Michael Vaughan during the segment, stated his second wish of Joe Root getting a hundred in Australia. The former England captain called Root as the ‘lone warrior’ and rightly so as the captain may not have led from the front in terms of winning the matches but has been the top scorer for England by a long mile. Root has scored in excess of 1700 runs in 2021 whereas the second-highest run-getter, Rory Burns has scored close to 580 runs only in 2021.

The third wish Vaughan stated was in England winning the T20 World Title in Australia this year. The T20 team reached the semi-finals where they were beaten by New Zealand. The England white-ball cricket has done fairly well in the last five years under the leadership of Eoin Morgan. England reached the finals of T20 in the 2016 WC, won 2019 50 over World-cup in a luck-favored outcome, and reached the semis of 2021 T20 World Cup.

May be Justin Langer will be the England coach for the 2022 T20 World Cup : Michael Vaughan

When stating his desire to see England winning the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, Vaughan commented that England may have a different coach. He said, “Hopefully in few month’s time, England will be winning that T20 World Cup in Australia. I don’t know who will be the coach around that time. May be Justin Langer will be England’s coach, you never know, things happening behind the scenes.”

There are reports that Chris Silverwood would be made the scapegoat after the Ashes tour which has been a horror for the touring side till now. Gary Kirsten is being considered as a potential replacement for the role and the 54-year-old has expressed his interest too for coaching the England test team.
