India’s tour of South Africa 2021, “Everything is on track” CSA Head

With the emergence of a new variant of Covid-19, the World is on alert again. Omicron, the new variant carries ‘very high global risk’ according to the World Health Organization. The variant was discovered in South Africa and the cases are expected to go high in the coming days and weeks. Dr. Salim Abdul Karim, one of the epidemiologists in South Africa, predicts that the cases will go from 275 to 10000 a week.

India has their South Africa tour scheduled from 17th December to 6th January and if the cases go out of hand, there are chances that the tour may get canceled also. However, according to Cricket South Africa’s head, they are sure that everything will go as per plan. The board has given assurances to BCCI about the efficacy of the biosecure environments which have become the norm in International Cricket these days.

“We’ve been engaging with them (the BCCI) and they are very keen to come,” Pholetsi Moseki, CSA’s acting CEO, said. “Our government is very keen to support us and to reassure our Indian counterparts. Everything is on track.”

The Cricket Board has suffered major revenue losses as Australia postponed their 2021 three test match tours, which were to start in March whereas England cancelled their tour completely. The CSA has not yet commented about shifting their scheduled venues for the India Test series. The outbreaks are mostly coming from the Gauteng province where the first and second test matches will take place.
