Ricky Pointing, Gary Kirsten to replace Chris Silverwood?

If emerging reports are to be believed, then ECB is sighting Ricky Ponting as the one who will replace the underfire Chris Silverwood after the Ashes tour. The news emerges in the wake of England’s disastrous Ashes campaign where they have collapsed nearly 5 times and have been unable to bowl the correct line and length like the Australian counterparts.

There were rumors that the ECB management is not happy with the way things have gone by on this tour, especially with team selection which included the dreaded decision of resting both Broad and Anderson on a green top wicket at Brisbane and including Jack Leach in the playing eleven, who got plundered by the Aussies as they extracted 102 runs from his 13 overs.

Ricky Ponting is unlikely to be involved with the England coaching as he is busy with the media work and coaching role for the Delhi Capitals. Coach Silverwood is currently isolated in Melbourne after his family member came out with a Covid positive a few days ago.

Gary Kirsten too in sights for the coaching role

Reports say that England is also considering Gary Kirsten. Kirsten has enjoyed a successful stint with Team India and South Africa and led both sides to the helm of Test rankings. Speaking to INews, Kirsten said that it would be an honor to coach the English side but he is unlikely to commit to all the formats for coaching.

Critics like Vaughan and Ponting have pointed out that this is the worst-performing English side on the shores of Australia. And the team is facing criticism from all corners of the cricket fraternity for their poor display of batting, bowling, no-balls and drop catch.

The fourth test has been thrown into chaos with the emergence of the Covid positive case in the Australian camp. Travis Head, the leading run-scorer will be isolated in Melbourne and all the players and families are undergoing multiple rounds of PCR tests.
