In a major blow that can significantly dent the ongoing Ashes, Australian batsman Travis Head has tested Covid positive. Seven people have already been infected with Covid in the England camp. And now there is certainly an uncertainty hovering on the fourth test which is scheduled to take place in Sydney on the 5th of January.

Cricket Australia broke the news of Travis Head being Covid positive on Friday. They said, “As part of our testing procedures, we are PCR testing players, their families, and our support staff daily.” Good thing is that the batsman is asymptomatic. “Thankfully, he is asymptomatic at this stage.” said Cricket Australia

Head will now undergo isolation for 7 days and will not take part in the Sydney Test. It should also be noted here that the PCR tests at times return false positives and therefore multiple tests are taken into account. As per the current condition of the player, Travis Head is likely to be available for the Hobart Test. Head has also been the leading run-scorer for Australia in this series. He has scored 248 runs, including a century at Brisbane at an average of 62.

Cricket Australia has added Mitchell Marsh, batsman Nic Maddinson and wicket-keeper Josh Inglis as possible replacements although there are chances that Usman Khawaja will get the nod to play in the fourth test. Travis Head will now remain in Melbourne to complete his seven days isolation before traveling to Hobart.

Both teams were to depart on Friday via a charter plane but now it is unclear when they will take on. Australia has already won this Ashes with their 3 – 0 lead and now it’s only a matter of pride for the English side to show some spirited performance in the remaining matches at Sydney and Hobart.
