India are no.1 for a reason – Dean Elgar before Ind SA test series

There is no doubt that South Africa has plenty of new faces in their playing eleven. Due to the retirement of star players such as the likes of Faf Du Plessis, A B Devilliers, and Dale Steyn, Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, the team is now in the transition unlike India, which have few players going through a rough patch. South African captain Dean Elgar believes that the home side may have an upper hand but cannot deny that India is world no.1 side in the longest format of the game.

Speaking in the virtual press conference, the South African said, “It is something that you are always wary of. They have improved a lot with regards to their traveling record. Virat Kohli has emphasized on that point that they want to improve on the road. Extremely mindful of that. And they have set themselves that standard.”

Indian pace battery over the years have become more lethal than the batting line and South Africa is wary of that

Never did India have the luxury of a well-settled pace attack who have got their tail up after a brilliant performance on the overseas tour of Australia and England. The bowlers almost took India over the line in the 2018 South African series but India lost a hard series then. This time around, India may come up firing not only with the ball but with the bat too.

“I am going to try and prevnt him (Kohli) from fulfilling that dream. So yeah, it makes up for an exciting and extremely challenging series coming up for both teams. We know they are gonna come out firing, we are extremely mindful of that as well but I am pretty sure they know that we are also gonna come out firing” Elgar said

India’s CV has become impressive in the last couple of years after defeating Australia twice in Australia, especially the series in early 2021 where India won with a depleted side and C-team. India then bamboozled England on rank turners in India. When England lost the series by 3- 1 to India, there were several indications from the English camp that England will make green-top wickets to heavily assist their seamers. But that did not bother India as Indian pace battery bowled out England batting line multiple times without any assistance from the pitch. India are currently leading that series by 2 – 1.

The India South Africa Series will start from the 26th of December around 1 P.M. on Star Sports Network. The match will also be live-streamed on the Disney+Hostar app.
