England drops Broad, overhaul nearly half of side

In a desperate move to keep the Ashes alive, England has brought in four changes for the Boxing Day test match. Zak Crawley has come in place of Rory Burns, Bairstow comes in for Ollie Pope and Jack Leach gets another chance after he got hammered in the Brisbane test where Australia scored 102 runs of his 13 overs. Mark Wood has been brought back into the side in place of Stuart Broad who was rested in the opening game at Gabba despite being ‘available.’

England bowlers were heavily criticized by their skipper who has insisted that the bowlers needed to be brave and bowled a little bit fuller. Stuart Broad in his column had earlier defended the criticism of bowling short balls as there was little to no seam movement on Adelaide pitch and fuller length could have been scored off, something which the bowlers weren’t willing to take a chance on.

England has faced plenty of criticism from their former players with the likes of Michael Vaughan stating that the only thing he expects from the touring side is being competitive on the field which they haven’t. Australia had a perfect start to the Ashes as they lost a good toss and were made to bowl in the overcast conditions by Root. Mitchell Starc then bowled the shuffling batsman Rory Burns on the very first ball.

Pat Cummins will return to the side after being left hours before the second test due to a Covid scare. Australia has to adjust to some changes also as Michael Neser and Jhye Richardson will be rested because of the injury. Josh Hazelwood too will be unavailable because of his side strain. Melbourne Cricket ground will have a capacity crowd for the first time since the Covid pandemic in 2020. Ticket sales are already over 70000 and the people will have to abide by certain behaviors in accordance to Covid protocol.
