India SA 2021, South Africa are favorites – JP Duminy

One of the best middle-order batsmen in Cricket history, South African former cricketer J P Duminy believes that South Africa has the upper hand in the series despite the batting line being relatively in-experienced in comparison to their Indian counterparts. J P Duminy, in conversation with Cricket.com, said that the bowling attacks of the two sides are almost similar and that the first two matches are to be played in extremely seamer-friendly conditions, the differentiating performance between the two sides is going to be their batting.

India and South Africa will be involved in three test match series starting from 26th December in Centurion. The Indian team has never won a Test series in South Africa. India’s revival of performance in the away tours began in South Africa in 2018 and since then the Team has accumulated series win twice in Australia and is leading the series against England in England by 2- 1. Virat Kohli will be looking to become the maiden captain to win the test series in South Africa and create a history.

India has not had great success in Centurion. Tendulkar’s century went in vain in 2010. Kohli too made a century at the venue in 2018 but India, unfortunately, lost the test match. However, this time with Kohli being relieved with some of the responsibility of ODI leadership, one can expect the Indian batsman to put on big runs like he used to do before 2019.

Duminy believes that playing a spinner might not be a good idea on the pitch. It would be interesting to see what the Indian think tank will decide to do with Ravichandran Ashwin in the first match. The off-spinner did not get a chance in the UK tour and Ravindra Jadeja was preferred over him. This time Ashwin is the lone spinner in the team.

India will be vary of the talent and pace of Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. The home side suffered a blow when Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the series but Duminy believes that South Africa will still have the upper hand in the test series because of the home conditions. India will be without Rohit Sharma who got injured a couple of days before the team’s departure to South Africa. The batsman is however expected to be available for the SA ODI tour.
