Team India will be eyeing their first-ever test series in South Africa. South Africa is the only country where India has not won the test series. Former selectors pointed out a couple of days earlier that India has the best chance of defeating South Africa this time. In a video released by the BCCI, Cheteshwar Pujara says that conditions in South Africa are challenging but the team has experience as most of the players have played before in South Africa, including him.
Pujara says that India will take in the confidence after doing well in Australia and England away series. In his own words, “I think having done well in England and Australia will make a big difference in this squads confidence and self-believe that we can win overseas. We can win in any conditions and with our bowling and batting lineup, I am very confident that we have the capacity to win a series in South Africa.”
The batsman and his teammate Ajinkya Rahane will be under pressure as many considered the series to be a last chance for the out-of-form duo. The last time India played South Africa in their backyard, they came close to winning their first-ever maiden series with 2 -1. India will be badly missing the services of Rohit Sharma in the tests due to his injury in the left hamstring.
The matches will be played without any spectators as the BCCI and CSA do not want to take any chances that may jeopardize the tour. India is coming off with their home series victory over New Zealand. The side is at no. 4 in the current World Test Championship cycle with 3 victories and 1 loss. The first test match will start on the 26th of December and the matches will be telecasted on the star sports network and Hotstar app in India.
