Joe Root Groin blow: Alistair Cook jokes Root’s unmentionable OK to produce children!!!

From the beginning of this Ashes, England has been under the pump. The visitors haven’t had too many things going their way and all England has afforded is gloomy faces right from the start of the Pink Ball Test match. There were moments of laughter though when one of Starc’s back of a length delivery thudded Root’s groin area. The batsman was immediately down and Mitchell Starc could be seen controlling his laughter seeing Joe Root’s agony.

The medical assistant rushed to the ground and Root after a while, went on to check his box but not before realizing that the spider cam is over his head and Root clearly signaled the cam to go away and not capture, much to the laughter of surrounding players and Fox sports commentators. Shane Warne even commented “That’s the worst one I have ever seen” implying the ball hit right on the groin area. But rubbing salt on the wound, Starc then got a nick off Root’s bat in the very last over of the day and the umpires then called the day off.

Alistair Cook didn’t shy away from expressing amusement. The then captain was in a similar situation when a nick of Steve Smith’s bat went straight near his midriff and induced laughter from Joe root who did sympathize. Cook was forced to spend 30 minutes off the field. Root was on the receiving end today and Cook joked on BT Sport that “what goes around comes around”.

This is not the first time Starc has damaged the England captain in the groin area. Starc’s 140 km/hr broke the abdominal guard of Root back in the 2019 4th Ashes test.

Cook then added, “But I was OK. I’ve had two children since. I don’t know how Rooty is at the moment.” Root in the warm-up this morning got hurt in the same area and was forced to go for the scan. He later came onto the field but was clearly in discomfort while fielding and dropped a tough catch at slip. At the end of day 4, England is tottering at 82 for four. The home side needs just 6 wickets on a pitch that is offering spin and bounce right from Day 1.
