Joe Root earlier, had to miss the initial part of the day as the area near his unmentionables got a nasty one from the throw down during the early morning practice session. During England’s second innings, one of Starc’s back of length came back into Joe and hit near the same area which was bruised since morning.
Joe Root was in great pain and Starc tried his level best to control the laughter. Joe Root opened up his trousers to check the condition of the guard but signaled the spy camera on top before that to go out of the way. Seeing this, everyone burst into laughter. Luckily, the captain seemed alright and the play resumed after 10 minutes.
Commentating on Fox Sports, Shane Warne said, “That’s one of the worst one I have seen”. But the drama wasn’t over then. During the last over the day, Mitchell Starc got a nick of Root, delivering a hammer blow to the visitors side.
England is still reeling behind 386 runs and Australia needs 6 wickets to win on Day 5. Earlier, England started the day well, capturing three wickets early but Labuschagne and Alex Carey carried on the lead and Australia declared at 236 for nine.
England lost Haseeb Hameed to a Richardson early in their second innings. Rory Burns and Dawid Malan hung in for a considerable period until the left-hander got out to in incoming ball from Neser. Rory Burns formed a painful 22 run partnership with Root when an away-moving ball from Richardson got the nick into the safe hands of Steve Smith.
England has had a torrid time so far on this tour. The absence of a specialist spinner hurt the visitors whereas the like of Broad and Anderson weren’t able to do some magic with the pink ball as expected from them.
