Babar will dominate 21st century: Wasim Akram

Babar Azam as a captain had a phenomenal outing. Appointed as the captain in 2021, the star batsman has so far won 26 matches and lost only 9 from a total of 40 T20 matches. Apart from the England T20 series where Pakistan lost by 2 – 1, Babar has won all the bilateral series for Pakistan. The highlight of the year was beating arch-rivals India for the first time and reaching the semis of the World cup.

Speaking to Sports 360, Akram lauded the 27-year-old, saying that the batsman is up there in the Fab four with the likes of Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Joe Root. “And now he’s the part of Fab four. [Virat] Kohli, [David] Warner, [Joe] Root and Babar is now getting high on top. Kohli is up there with Babar,” Akram said.

Fans raised questions on Babar’s form in the recent West Indies T20 series where he got out cheaply in the first two matches but made a handsome 79 in the 3rd T20 to help his side clinch the series by 3 – 0. The ODI series with the West Indies has been postponed to June 2022 in the wake of 8 Covid cases in the West Indian camp.

Babar is a focused leader: Wasim Akram

Akram heaped praises on the work ethic of the captain. Babar played a crucial inning of taking Karachi Kings to their maiden PSL win in 2020. “He came through the proper ranks, I have worked with him in Karachi Kings as well from last three years. I love his work ethic, he is focused and he’s never satisfied with his performance and that’s a sign of a good leader”. Akram in conversation with Sports360

Akram believes that the Babar is no less than the likes of Pakistan batting legends. In his own words, “You see if you talk about Pakistan batting, you start with Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Saleem Malik, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousaf and then now it’s Babar Azam. The 21st century belongs to Babar Azam, he’s the man. And he’s still got plenty in him,”

Ever since Ramiz Raja has come on board, the Pakistan team seems to be having playing fearlessly and with a more positive approach, something which wasn’t synonymous with them, especially in the crucial matches.
