IPL Lucknow Franchise: Gautam Gambhir appointed as mentor


In a strong move taken by the new IPL franchise, Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the mentor. The member of two times World Cup-winning team will benefit the franchise and its players. “Thanks a lot to Dr Goenka and the RPSG Group for presenting me with this wonderful opportunity. The fire to win a contest still burns bright inside me. The desire to leave a winners’ legacy still kicks me 24×7. I will not be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit and soul of Uttar Pradesh,” Gambhir responded.”

The players for the new IPL franchise will be chosen in the mega-auction that is likely to be held in the second week of January 2022. The IPL is expected to be played in May 2022. Earlier, the franchise was bought at a price of RsĀ 7,090 crore by Sanjiv Goenka-led RPSG Group. They have also appointed Andy Flower recently as the head coach.

Why the new IPL Franchise chose Gautam Gambhir and Andy Flower?

It is widely believed in the cricketing fraternity, that when it comes to delivering under pressure, Gambhir has immense experience. At the same time, Andy Flower has a great stint with the English Cricket Team and is known to have a no-nonsense attitude with a willingness to take tough decisions. The duo seems to have a similar aggressive mindset for counter-attack measures under difficult scenarios.

Will Gautam Gambhir be able to led Lucknow franchise to an IPL Title?

Gambhir has been a part of two World cup winning teams already in 2007 and 2011. The former left-hander is known to deliver crucial performances in the crunch game. Kolkatta Knight Readers as a team were not able to perform well in the initial seasons of IPL but all that changed once Gambhir was boarded. The team won the IPL in 2012 and 2014.

Salary of Gautam Gambhir for mentoring the Lucknow Franchise side?

The salary has not been disclosed however it is believed that he will be paid between 1 crore. There are also strong reports that K L Rahul has been assured an offer of Rs 20 crores by the Lucknow IPL franchise in the mega-auction. However, if the reports turn out to be true then K L Rahul may get barred from playing the IPL next year as it is against the BCCI’s guidelines for both players and franchise to approach each other before the retention was announced. Anil Kumble revealed that Punjab Kings tried to retain K L Rahul, however the batsman was willing to enter into the mega-auctions
