It wouldn’t be wrong to say that India was one of the favorites, if not the clear favorites for winning the Dubai T20 World Cup. The men in blue were coming off from the IPL and had a great outing before that in the England tour where India is currently leading 2 -1. However, all the expectations were wiped out after India lost the initial two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand.
Speaking to Boria Majumdar on his program, Ganguly said that India performed well in the 2017 and 2019 ICC events, however, they disappointed in the 2021 T20 World Cup event. Ganguly in his own words, “Disappointed with the way we played this World Cup. I think this has been the poorest of all that I have seen in the last 4 – 5 years. I don’t know what’s the reason but I thought they did not play with enough freedom in this world cup. Sometimes it happens in big tournaments.
You just get stuck. And when I saw them play against Pakistan and New Zealand, I just felt that this is the team which is playing 15% of its ability. Hopefully, they will learn from it.” Virat Kohli became the first captain who has lost a World Cup match to the arch-rivals Pakistan. New Zealand has always outperformed India in nearly all the World Cup matches.
He deserved it : Sourav Ganguly on Rohit Sharma

India would have the won the series against England : Sourav Ganguly
The India – England series in 2021 was one of the best series in the history of Test cricket. India was leading by 2 – 1 after the fifth match was called off due to Covid cases in the Indian camp. The final match will be played in 2022 however, Ganguly believed that India would have gone on to win the series even if the 5th match would have happened. In his own words, “We will play next year (5th test match) because we want to complete the series. We wanted to complete the series this year only because India would have won the series. And that would have remained in history.” Ganguly said
Opportunity for this team to turn things around : Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly said that this generation has the opportunity to turn things around as there is a world title tournament almost every year. ICC has scheduled 8 ICC events for the next cycle.
The duo of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri got India some brilliant achievements in all formats of the game, both in India and abroad. Now the new duo leadership of Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma will be keen to win an ICC tournament of India. The nation tasted its last success in the ICC event in 2013 under Mahendra Singh Dhoni. India’s next assignment is with South Africa where they will play three ODIs and three T20s.
