Virat Kohli 1 p.m. Press conference, to address reports of not playing ODI in South Africa

The Indian team is set to depart to South Africa on the 16th of December. Just like with every tour, there is a mandatory press conference. But as surprising it is, Virat Kolhi will be giving the press conference along with Rahul Dravid and not Rohit Sharma. The team has been embroiled in controversy over their leaders. Rohit Sharma is already out of the test series, however, reports have confirmed that the player is likely to take part in the ODI tour. The Press-conference will draw attention from plenty of cricketing journalists due to recent rumors of a rift between the two pillars of the Indian Cricket Team.

Virat Kohli to play the ODI series – Reports

After a lot of ifs and buts, it now looks like that Virat Kolhi will be playing the ODI series in South Africa. It is worth noting that BCCI’s Sourav Ganguly was in Mumbai for the last two days and may have had a word with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kolhi. According to the reports, BCCI did not receive a formal request from the test captain not wanting to play the ODI tour. There was also a report from one BCCI official who expressed disappointment in the way things have turned out and termed Kohli as ‘selfish’ for reacting in such a way.

Lots of questions to ask

Apart from Kohli’s participation in the ODI leg, the journalists will be looking to ask questions regard Rohit’s injury and his update for the ODI tour. The BCCI has not yet announced the interim test vice-captain for the South African series. Ajinkya Rahane was recently demoted from test vice-captaincy. There are reports that K L Rahul is the likely contender to accept that responsibility for the South Africa tour.

Earlier, Kohli’s childhood coach criticized the BCCI and said that there is no transparency with the cricketing body. The coach who often remains out of the media limelight told that Kohli’s phone is coming switched off for the last few days.

Kohli took a break from the T20 home series against New Zealand. The Test captain returned for the test series and defeated New Zealand 1 -0. Kohli has a great chance of winning the test series in South Africa, something which the predecessors have not done yet. The Indian test captain has already achieved the feat of being the first captain who defeated Australia in Australia. The Indian team was leading by 2- 1 in the England tour series when the series was called off due to members of the Indian team turning out Covid positive. The deciding 5th final test will be played in the summer of 2022.
