Rohit Sharma Injury, Likely to miss South Africa Series – Reports


In a setback to the Indian team, Rohit Sharma got injured during a training session in Mumbai. The team is due to depart for South Africa on the 16th to play three Tests and 3 ODIs. The news comes as a big blow to the Indian fans as Rohit has been a dominant performer for India in the last couple of years and India is eyeing their maiden test series win in South Africa.

The Indian team has been practising at the Sharad Pawar Academy and a throwdown from the Raghavendra, a known expert for the batting practices throwdowns, hit Rohit hard on his glove. Sources on spot said that the batsman was in pain but seem alright after a few minutes. A source close to the cricketer told PTI, “There are some issues with his hand but the medical team is trying to sort it out,”

The likes of Rishabh Pant, Thakur, and KL Rahul were seen practising hard. Rahane will be looking to perform well in South Africa as the selectors are paying close attention to his performance and there are reports that the series is the last chance for the veteran to prove his good form before he will be dropped from the side.

Priyank Panchal has been called as a cover for Rohit Sharma. The batsman recently played for India A against SA A and scored valuable runs. The cover in batsman has asked to report to the Mumbai Hotel by night.

Rohit Sharma was recently named as the ODI captain and was also promoted to vice-test captaincy. The stylish right-hander has amassed 906 runs in test cricket this year in 11 innings at an average of 46.9 including two hundred and four fifties. He scored a century against England, both times during the home and away series.

India also has a replacement of Rohit in the form of Mayank Agarwal and Shubhman Gill. Both batsmen have performed well in the recently conducted home series against New Zealand. The South Africa assignment will start on the 26th of December.
