Home Cricket James Anderson and Stuart Broad declared ‘fit’ for the 2nd Test

James Anderson and Stuart Broad declared ‘fit’ for the 2nd Test

During Australia’s 1st innings, England was quick to realize that they have not done right by not playing Stuart Broad and James Anderson. The duo share close to 1200 wickets between them. While Jimmy Anderson was not played due to an injury scare, the exclusion of Stuart Broad was a surprise, much to the bowler himself, a less one though. Broad revealed that he was prepared for the 1st test match.

Now Chris Silverwood has declared both Broad and Anderson fit and the coach said that the duo had been practicing with the Pink ball behind the scenes. In his own words, “They are available, yes,” Silverwood says.┬áJimmy will be fit and ready to go for the second test, as will Stuart. [But] I have not told anyone they are playing yet.”

However, the dilemma for England would be to exclude the two players to bring back Broad and Anderson into the playing eleven. It is likely that Jack Leach and Chris Woakes would be rested. The spinner was taken apart by the Aussies, extracting 102 runs of his 13 overs of his bowling.

It is worth noting that Australia so far has played five Day-night test matches and has never lost. India, earlier this year were bowled out for a surprisingly low 36 in a pink ball test match, their lowest ever in test history. However, even more, surprising was the comeback of the Indian team not only to win the next test match but to win the series by winning the final match at the Gabba, which had been the fortress for the home side for 33 years.

Root earlier said that they would take confidence from India’s win earlier this year. Australia on the other hand would be wary of not flying high in the sky. They did that when India was folded for 36 runs and paid the price. Josh Hazelwood and David Warner are unlikely to play due to injury. Jhye Richardson and Usman Khawaja are being looked upon as replacements.
