“Hope the dressing room will not get separated …” : Brad Hogg on Kohli’s captaincy removal

After captaining India for almost 8 years in the ODI format, Virat Kohli was removed by the BCCI a few days ago. The news was shocking to many in the cricketing fraternity. Rohit Sharma taking the leadership role was always on the cards, but everyone thought that the matter was dusted and settled once Rohit got the captaincy of the T20.

Many former players have voiced their opinion and this time Brad Hogg, the former Australian leg spinner believes that it was a blessing in disguise for Virat Kohli.

In his own words, “I just think this is a good move because Kohli should embrace it and relax about it the whole situation and just concentrate on captaining the test side. And you have a white ball captain. So basically you have Rohit Sharma just concentrating on the team that he wants in white-ball cricket and Virat Kohli focussing on Test Cricket. It takes a lot of pressure of you.

“The media hype that’s of the field, all of a sudden that relaxes Virat Kohli as he will now have to worry about the Test environment. Rohit Sharma has got to worry about the white ball environment. Plus all the sponsorship commitments and the other commitments of the field, I think this is going to be better for Virat Kohli. Its gonna improve his performances which have slightly dropped off since the last couple of years when he has been under pressure, captaining all three teams. So, I think it’s a blessing in disguise.

This year has witnessed plenty of speculations regarding Kohli’s captaincy and communication style with the team. There were reports earlier that some players were made to feel insecure when Indian lost the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. Recently, a website claimed that Cricbuzz plus confirmed that Rohit Sharma accepted the T20 captaincy from BCCI on the condition that he will be the ODI captain too.

Brad Hogg, further said, “I just hope that when they go on their next tour, that the change room is not separated by this little slight division between these two particular players in the leadership roles. I think both of them are gonna embrace it, get in that change room and chill move forward”

Indian batting and bowling should dominate the World Cricket for next five years at least : Brad Hogg

In recent years, it has become evident that the depth of talent in Indian Cricket is significant. India earlier this year, defeated Australia in Australia without their regular players, a feat in itself. Then the BCCI sent an Indian B team to Sri Lanka where they won comprehensively. Regarding the depth of Indian cricket, Brad Hogg said, “Indian Cricket right now, with the talent that they have got, the depth they have got in batting and bowling should dominate World Cricket over the next five years, at least. It’s only going to be a little disruption between a couple of players that will unsettle the network within the group that will turn things around”

India’s next assignment starts on the 26th of December against South Africa. The team has entered the Bio-bubble security from today 12th of December and will depart for SouthAfrica on the 16th of December.
