Michael Vaughan believes bowlers cannot lead a side. He explains why

In the wake up of Tim Paine’s ‘sexting’ scandal, the Australian team management found themselves in the difficult spot of choosing a new captain right ahead of the Ashes series, which is to begin from the 8th of December. As David Warner and Steve Smith were not eligible for captaincy (due to the 2018 sandpaper scandal), the team had to look for a new face and they appointed Pat Cummins as the man to lead the side.

The pacer has been the spearhead of the Australian bowling attack, especially in the test side, and has a phenomenal record in Australia with a tally of 92 wickets from 2017 till now in 20 test matches at an average of 21.39. Michael Vaughan now has commented on Cummins being appointed as the captain.

Vaughan said that he never has believed in pacers to be the captain but he did point out the reason why he believe so. According to Vaughan, bowlers have a lot of workload which makes it difficult for them to captain a side. He also feels that Pat Cummins will be an exception to his belief and will be a good captain as the player possess a calm personality and is ‘obviously’ a high-class player.

Australia will look to dominate England in their home conditions. The 2019 Ashes in England was drawn. The world is waiting to witness the battle between David Warner and Stuart Broad. Broad dominated the batsman in the last Ashes. He got him out seven times which included four ducks. But the bowler feels that he is unlikely to dominate the left-hander this time around. Pat Cummins has announced the playing eleven for the 1st Test match and Mitchell Starc is chosen in place of Jhye Richardson. Travis Head will be the wicket-keeper batsman instead of Usman Khawaja.
