Newzealand has produced one of the finest chases in the T20 history by defeating England. The side was tumbling at 17 for 2 when Deven Conway and Daryl Mitchell consolidated their innings with their calculated shots. For the most part of the game, England had their noses ahead of the Blackcaps but a cameo from James Neesham changed everything.
Speaking to a leading channel, Kevin Peterson has now come in support of Chris Jordan who got hammered for 23 runs. Peterson said that when the NZ all-rounder does that, there wasn’t much that the bowler could have done.
It was the crucial 17th over from where the momentum shifted back towards the Blackcaps. Needing 57 from 24 balls, Neesham went berserk on Chris Jordan, hammering two sixes and four in the 16th over and a six against Adil Rasheed in the 17th over.
The match hung in balance before the start of the 19th over with NZ needing 20 of the last 12 balls. However, Daryl Mitchell was able to pull off two sixes, the first of the length-ball and the second six was a powerful pull. The final nail in the coffin was the four of full-toss on the last ball of 19th over. England captain Eoin Morgan admitted that the side couldn’t have done anything better and that the Kiwis outplayed them in the final stages of the game.
Nasser Hussain made a remark that the blackcaps have erased the pain of 2019 Lords game in Sheikh Zayed Stadium in 2021, hinting at the manner in which England was able to get back into the game against NZ due to the deflection off Ben Stokes of the throw.
