“They are an outstanding team, in all formats of the game really”: Micheal Atherton on NZ

It was a sad day for the English fans as their team didn’t go into the final, courtesy of some magnificent late hitting by James Neesham and Darryl Mitchell. The Englishmen were in the game right till the 16th over where Neesham Single-handedly changed the momentum of the game by hammering Chris Jordan for 23 runs.

Michale Atherton, while talking to a private news channel, praised the Blackcaps for reaching another final of the ICC tournament. The Kiwis under Kane Williamson had plenty of achievements in the last 3 years. The side almost won the 2019 WC final, they won the inaugural test championship by defeating India in June 2021 and now they have reached another final.

The eleven-ball blitz from James Neesham provided the turning point of the game. The player eventually got out on 27 of Adil Rasheed after bringing the required run rate significantly.

Pitch appeared two faced and sluggish: Michael Atherton

Atherton too like Eoin Morgan believed that the pitch was “two-paced and sluggish, and no one got going except Neesham”. James Neesham went after the attack from the second bowl of his innings. He came close to being out when Johhny Bairstow managed to catch the ball sailing over the rope but his knee touched the rope and prevented James Neesham from not only getting out but also conceeding six runs. Darryl Mitchell won the man of the match award for his 72 runs from 48 balls.
