BCCI hasn’t requested, rumors of India tour Delay is only speculation: CSA CEO

News is now coming from South Africa, that the cases due to Omicron is rising. Concerned with that, we reported that the BCCI is looking to request the CSA to delay the tour by one week and also to reduce the three test match series to two. Now the CSA CEO has given his view on the matter.

Pholetsi Moseki, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket South Africa has commented that the news of India wanting to delay the tour is only speculation. Earlier, the Indian Government was set to uplift the international travel ban from the 15th of December but now they have decided to prolong the ban due to the emergence of a new Covid variant which the WHO has classified as a “variant of concern”.

South Africa has witnessed double the number of infections in the last 24 hours. The country witnessed 4373 infections on Tuesday whereas it reported 8561 reports on Wednesday. Cricket South Africa announced at their AGM meeting that they have suffered a loss of R221-million in the 2020 – 2021 financial year. The board adjusted its expenditure from R1.2 billion to R700 million

The acting CEO said that they are in touch with the BCCI and have also confirmed that the Indian players will be arriving to South Africa in a chartered plane in order to minimize the risk of infection from the commercial travel. South Africa is keen to host India as the tour is likely to generate R700 million which is monumental as compared to the revenue generated from touring nations like Australia, England, and New Zealand.

The CEO also commented that they are in touch with the BCCI on a daily basis and hasn’t heard from them about the possibility of delaying the tour by a week. And that they are expecting the visitors as per original plans i.e. 8th or 9th of December 2021.

South Africa’s domestic series postponed due to Covid spread

While the CSA may be willing to host India as per original plans, they have postponed their main three domestic fixtures as no. of players have come out positive. The cause of the spread has been fixated on the absence of secure bio-bubble. The CSA however has given a guarantee that the Indian team will be staying in two hotels as the safety of the players is a priority of them.

Concerns within the Indian Dressing room
