Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison has suggested that India should go in with Mohammad Siraj against the kiwis in the second test match. New Zealand denied India a win in the 1st Test at Kanpur as their tailenders survived the last 9 overs on a difficult pitch.

Harmison commented that it was hard to believe that Ishant Sharma got back in the Test side after his performance in England. It is worth noting that Sharma went wicketless in both the innings of the India NZ First test at Kanpur. Speaking on Talksport, Harmison added that the Indian Team is likely to drop seniors such as Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane after the duo has consistently been out of form.

Harmison believed both the seamers were below par in the match. In his own words, “”For me both seamers were also below par in the first Test match, for the life of me I don’t understand how Ishant Sharma got another game of Test cricket after what he did in England, so for me I’d bring [Mohammed] Siraj in for him. The three spinners bowled well enough, so they’ll be the only changes I make,” Harmison while talking to talkSPORT.”

The former pace bowler highlighted that Pujara has been without a century for 39 innings and that too be in the great Indian side despite that is hard to understand. Pujara’s last century came in 2019 against Australia when India registered their first-ever win down under.

Ajinkya Rahane has been out of form for quite some too however he enjoys the backing of the new coach. Once renowned as a prolific run-scorer in foreign conditions, Rahane seemed out of form after the 2021 Australian tour where he led a depleted Indian to their second test series win.

Shreyas Iyer was brought in as a replacement of Virat Kohli however the batsman played remarkably well and therefore is unlikely to be exited for the 2nd Test.
