With the emergence of the Omicron variant, it looks like the India SA tour may face some hurdles. Earlier the BCCI had delayed the announcing of the ODI team and will now do it on Sunday. WHO recently slated Omicron as a “variant of concern”.And now Virat Kohli has given his statement whether the team will be touring to SA or not.
Virat Kohli, who is all set to return to Test Cricket on 3rd Dec, has commented that Rahul Dravid initiated a conversation and rightly so. All the senior members of the squad have been spoken to.
In his own words “We have spoken to all the Senior Members of the Squad, obviously, Rahul Bhai has initiated a conversation within the group, which is very important to know, because at the end of the day, we understand. Our focus from the test match will not shift regardless, but also to know that you want to have clarity and you want to be in a situation where you know exactly what’s going on “
Earlier the CSA chairman had revealed that the Indian team will be staying in two hotels and that no more than 2000 spectators will be allowed inside the ground after verifying their vaccination status. There are also reports that the SA tour may get delayed by a week as the BCCI is in constant touch with the government seeking their approval.
In a pre-match conference, Kohli further said that “It’s pretty natural, we are not playing in normal times so there is a lot of planning that is involved, there is a lot of preparation that is involved in understanding what exactly will go on”
Kohli said that while that they are expecting clarity on the status from the board but right now they are focussing purely on the second test against New Zealand which will start on 3rd December at Wankhede stadium.
With Kohli’s return at the Test squad as a captain, it is likely that one of Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara or Ajinkya Rahane will be making an exit.
