In a major development, Trevor Bayliss, the head coach of the Sunriser’s Hyderabad has resigned from the franchise with immediate effect. The Australian coach was with the franchise from 2019. Under his coaching, SRH came close to making it into the finals in 2020 however, the 2021 season saw a below-par performance from the orange team with wins in just 3 games from 14 matches. SRH has announced that the new coach will be announced soon.
Bayliss holds an impressive record as a coach. He was with the England team from, 2015 to 2019 during which the English side went on to win their maiden World Cup campaign. He also coached the Sri Lankan side from 2007 to 2011 during which the Lankans came into the final of the 2011 World Cup. The Australian also led Kolkatta to IPL wins on two occasions in 2012 and 2014. He also coached Sydney Sixers from 2011 – 2015 during which the team achieved the runner-up. He is also appointed as the (OBE) Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to Cricket.
Andy Flower to join new Lucknow or Ahmedabad franchise as coach
In a similar development, Andrew Flower, the assistant coach of Punjab Kings has resigned too. The BCCI released the news to an agency that the assistant coach had recently sent his resignation. BCCI sources also said that former Zimbabwe player is likely to join one of the two new franchises based out of Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Ness Wadia, the co-owner confirmed to CricBuzz that Anil Kumble will continue as the head coach for the franchise.
Andy Flower, who acquired British citizenship had a successful coaching career. His coaching led England to the No.1 test side in Test Cricket. He also guided England to win their first T20 World cup in the Caribbean Islands in 2010. However, the highlight of his coaching career will be the 3 – 1 Ashes win for England in Australia in 2010 – 2011.
K L Rahul and Andy Flower to reunite?
Despite efforts by the Punjab Kings, K L Rahul decided to go into the auctions. There are rumors swirling that the star batsman will be offered a contract of 20 crores by the Lucknow franchise. Since Andy flowers have also stepped down, it is very likely that he may join the Lucknow franchise. If K L Rahul goes with the Lucknow franchise, he is likely to be their captain.
